Hot Wheels Fun

Jonathan's friend, Dawson, came over after school one day last spring. The boys (and Annisia) played Hot Wheels for a couple of hours. Jonathan set up his 4 lane race track. Dawson, who lives across the street, ran home and grabbed his Trick Tracks that fit into the Hot Wheels tracks and do cool things like hold cars until they're bumped, then throw said cars, or stomp on cars, or kick cars. Even a dinosaur that kicked.... Great boy things...
Here's the video of the boys playing...

Easter 2011

Here's Easter 2011...we went to my parent's home. The kids spent a lot of time on the trampoline at my brother Alan's home. We went to the park with some friends. That's what it's all about...family.

Sweet!

I came across this video last night while searching for a photo for Jonathan to use for a school paper. the kids thought it was really cute. So do I. Enjoy! It takes us back a few years...that little boy is gone, replaced by a bigger boy with more developed vocabulary...

It's a kid thing...

Jonathan was playing farming/ranching one day in February 2011...
I discovered some little girl's touches later...

The kids were playing outside...do you think they're ready for summer? This lawn chair has been around for awhile...see it here too.
March 18, 2011 Jonathan won "Most Dedicated to Design" for Excavator at the library Lego contest.

He also likes to build with K'Nex. Here's a gecko. Here are some other K'Nex posts:
The kids were out to Gramma and Papa's before Easter 2011. Gramma dyed eggs with them.
Here are the results...

Things the kids have said...

I thought I'd post some cute things the kids have said, for my own information mostly, as I am treating this blog as a scrapbook of sorts. So, I'll post them here, even though some of them are a couple years old, then move them within the blog later. Here goes:

November22, 2009
Prayers tonight...(Annisia)"Father we're thankful for God & Jesus...for the ducks that live in the pond, the froggies that jump in the pond, the moose that eat the grass...for this bed and the blankets and my jammies. Amen!" (Jonathan)"Dear God, we're thankful for the grass & the hot lava & the bears. I'm thankful for this wonderful day. I'm so glad that when I am sad, you are there. In Jesus name, Amen!"I wonder now why he was feeling sad. Had he gotten sent to his room for a time out? Was Mommy or Daddy too busy to play? Did he not get the book he wanted?

1.17.10 Jonathan singing..."Hey, Jude. Don't make it bad. Take a sad song and make it bettah. Rememba to let huh into your hot, then you can stot to make it bettah." (love the English accent?!) Of course, if you don't know "Hey, Jude" by the Beatles, this won't make any sense to you...

1.18.10 Annisia, "I am Iron Sister. Repulser Blast!" Yep! She has a big brother. Again, unless you know about Ironman, this won't make sense to you. Jonathan got a toy Ironman as a gift. It says different things, like, "I am Ironman. Repulser blast!"

3.14.10 You know those plastic Army guys? They are on a flat piece of plastic so they stand? Well, Jonathan thinks they are cowboys and Indians on snowboards! It's hilarious! He snowboards them around while he's playing...what a kick! Then, this morning, before he and Daddy left for meeting, he gathered them all into a group and said they were "going to huddle for safety and to keep warm". He's so smart...

4.19.10 WARNING! Facebook will automatically scan your brain through your monitor. To block, go to Kitchen... Cabinet... then remove box that says "Aluminum Foil." Wrap foil around your head, stay calm & breath through your LEFT nostril. THIS IS SERIOUS & has been confirmed by CNN, Fox & my cousin's girlfriend's neighbor's aunt...AND her pet chihuahua... Please copy & paste as your status. SAVE YOUR FRIENDS & THEIR BRAINS

4.21.10 My parents were visiting, so little time on FB. I got Annisia's curtains done today. Hope to get more projects done in the few days they are still here. Jonathan told me tonight, "Mommy, I think Gramma and Grampa can help babysit Will tomorrow. I said that because I think they probably know how to babysit!"

4.28.10 I told Jonathan to look on the US map place mat and find "Wah, Wah, Washington". So he's looking upside down and finds Wisconsin. Nope! Then I said, "There are three states that start with W, Washington, Wisconsin, and West Virginia." And he immediately said, "There are four. What about Wyoming?" I hate when my 5 year old is better at geography than I am! ;-)

5.01.10 Jonathan and I are STILL working on his school craft. "Mommy, we now need those paints you add water to." "We don't have any watercolors, son." "Well that's what we need to use." Did you know food coloring mixed in a tiny bit of water makes a pretty good watercolor? Do I get a Mommy of the year award for not just trashing the craft?!

6.21.10 Annisia's card to Daddy (one of those talking cards)...Mr. Simpson says, "I said no the 1st time. What makes you think I am going to say yes the 2nd time?" The Simpson daughter says, "Nothing. But you might say yes the 99th time." "Don't try me." "Please, Dad." "No!" "Please, Dad." "No!" "Please, Dad." "No!" "Please, Dad." "No!" "Please, Dad." "No!" "PLEASE, Dad." "No! Oh, OK." heehee! That's totally Annisia...!;-)

July 19, 2010
Today at the Y, Jonathan told a little girl she couldn't be an attack dog. The little girl told Maggie, daycare helper. She said to J, "Jonathan, she wants to be an attack dog." and Jonathan said, "My daddy says what you want doesn't matter. It's what you NEED that matters." ;-0 What Maggie said in return was, "Well, Jonathan, she NEEDS to be an attack dog!" and he chuckled! She's an elementary teacher, so she really got a kick out of the whole thing!

8.4.10 Listening to music, "We're not gonna take it. No, we ain't gonna take it..." Annisia said, "Mommy, why are they saying 'ain't'? Maybe it's because they can't say 'aren't'." Ah...it's nice to have kids that are learning proper English!

8.13.10 A few sweet things from babysitting Mollie and Kenna...hearing 4 little voices singing a table grace before lunch, 4 sweet kiddos asking "May I please be excused?" then taking their plates to the sink, and Kenna telling Jonathan she doesn't need a weapon because she has cartwheel power (!).

8.15.10 Annisia's list of things she's thankful for tonight..."Father, I'm thankful for Mommy who's going to lay with me tonight, I'm thankful for Daddy and Jonathan, I'm thankful for Gramma and Papa, and I'm thankful for the locked doors on our house. Amen."

8.26.10 So.....why DO they make children's toys so complicated you need a Masters degree in mechanical engineering? I gave up trying to do a Transformer, and there's even directions! ugh.

8.26.10 So.....why DO they make children's toys so complicated you need a Masters degree in mechanical engineering? I gave up trying to do a Transformer, and there's even directions! ugh.

Sept 6, 2010
Jonathan was playing with his Transformers. He told me, "Mommy, I am whipping tortillas!" I presume tortillas are bigger than cookies?!

9.16.10 Sweet Annisia just drove up in her Pooh truck, holding a little Pooh doll wearing a dolly diaper. She announced, "This baby just came out of my tummy. I have 100 babies." (!) Then she chuckled...

10.16.10 Well, Parenting with Love and Logic seems to be working. Just heard Annisia say, "Uh oh, looks like someone needs a little bedroom time. So sad." to her brother's stuffed moose. (heehee!)

10.20.10 More Love and Logic humor...this afternoon, Jonathan was giving Annisia choices. "You can either take the red stroller and give me the blue one, or they can go to the dump. What's your choice?"

11.2.10 Annisia comes out pushing her dolly stroller. "Mommy, we're going trick or treating. These two babies were just born today." Me, "Really?! And you're going t-or-t-ing already?" (as I am pulling the vacuum cleaner out.) "Yes. Oh! Can I vacuum?" Just after childbirth??! Okaay...

November 16, 2010
Jonathan's class has one letter a week in school. This week is T. So their homework is writing a tongue twister, either one they make up or one they have been told. So, we were talking about tongue twisters, reading him some, I read "Animalia" by Graeme Base which is basically tongue twisters. So, we sit down to write his tongue twister and he says, "I have one. 'Drawing dragons rampaging through the drilling village.'" Then proceeded to write "Droing dragins rampaging throo the driling vilij." Pretty cool spelling, eh?!

I figured out why I'm fat! The shampoo I use in the shower that runs down my body says "for extra volume and body". I'm going to start using "Dawn" dish soap. It says "dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove".

11.18.10 At least Jonathan is perseverating on "If You're Happy and You Know It"...

11.30.10 Help! I'm cleaning and rearranging Annisia's room and found myself dressing all her dollies...I need a life...;-)

12.1.10 Learning Tree is celebrating J week, so they had to write a joke for homework. Jonathan's joke, written verbatim, "How did the sckeer ski up the steep hill?" "He used jet skees!" Then Michael asked him, "Why is our last name Markovsky?" "Because it's too hard to spell Markovstoboggan!"

12.7.10 "Annisia, please put the silverware away." "But the strawberries I planted for Daddy's Smurf village might wilt! Can I check them first?"

12.12.10 We heard at Special Mtg today, "There's a fine difference between stubborn and steadfast. Stubborn is defending your own belief. Steadfast is defending Jesus' doctrine."

12.18.10 Daddy and Annisia were going to have a ski date today. So, last night I told Jonathan I was excited to have a date with him today. He said, "Mommy, we're not dating." and kind of shrugged like he was confused. ;-)

12.18.10 Jonathan and I are playing "Lava Fighting Force Eight". I am in over my head...what a date!

1.4.11 Joy. Homework with a very detail-oriented 6 year old. "Draw a simple floor plan of your home". Right. We have kitchen countertops, where the fridge bumps out, the wood stove... Whee! We ought to be done sometime today. This kiddo cracks me up...

1.6.11 I'm worried. Annisia's Smurfette dolly is calling me "Grandma."

1.21.11 Kids' conversation coming home from gymnastics... "Heaven is above space." "Well, how do you get there?" "You die." "You mean you just *blehh*(sort of an explosive noise here) and fall on the floor?" "Heaven doesn't have a floor. You just, like, walk on the clouds." "Carebears walk on the clouds!"

1.27.11 So, this evening before the kids went to bed, Annisia was walking around singing "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Life goes on, yeah, la, la, la, la life goes on." And Jonathan killed a big teddy bear and was handing out bear meat. "Whoever wants the bear's heart the baddest can have it." Annisia said, "I do!" My kids are slightly warped...;-)

2.10.11 Ever have one of those Wanda from the Baby Blues comic days where you can tell your husband when he walks in the door, "Well, today I filled an ice cube tray and got half my hair combed..."? Yup. It's been one of those days...

3.1.11 I was telling Michael and the kids about the history of Thieves oil at the dinner table. "There were some thieves who discovered a certain combination of herbs/spices prevented them from getting sick during the Plague, so they went into infected areas with this stuff in a bag around their necks and stole things." After a few minutes, Annisia said, "Was that when you were little, Mommy?"

3.10.11 It's fun to watch kids learning phonetics! Today, we were studying Jonathan's spelling words. I said, "Dog. The dog barked" and he wrote, "The dog borckt." Must be Russian!

3.16.11 Last evening, Michael and Annisia were walking around the house. She told me this morning, they found "some roofs" on the grass! She was quite serious about it too. Guess it's time for new shingles...

October 2011...Jonathan...One day's homework was writing everything he had learned about air down in his journal. They had done experiments all week during science and had learned a lot about air. He had vocabulary words like bubbles, vial, syringe, water, balloon to use. So I asked him, "What did you do with a syringe?" He told me the experiment they had done and I suggested how he could make one sentence out of it. "No." Ok..."So what did you do with the vial?" He told me how they had pushed the vial straight down into the water, opening first, then tilted it and watched the bubbles coming up, the water replacing the air. Cool experiment! So I worked with him, brainstorming a sentence he could write. "No." Now I am getting frustrated. He's telling me all sorts of cool things he's learned but he isn't about to write any of them down. (This is why I won't home school!!;-)) Finally, I asked him why he wasn't going to use any of the great sentences we had come up with. "Because all the other kids wrote about those things, Mommy." So he wrote, "Hot air makes balloons rise. Air and water make steam." and some others. But they were original...none of the other kids had written them! He's going to be an inventor/engineer/scientist...
