"Needs of a Mom" poem

This is a poem I wrote and published in the MOPS newsletter. It was a fun write. Enjoy!

Needs of a Mom

One morning a bit of “nature called”, if you understand what I mean. ;-)
And so I headed to the bathroom, but on the way, it seems
someone had dropped a small burp rag on the floor of the living room,
so I thought I’d pick it up and get it into my children’s room.

I noticed the kids’ hamper was just bursting at the seams.
And so I thought, “I’ll just throw these clothes into my washing machine.
In they went, but whoops! Just wait! There’s still a load from yesterday!
“Well, let’s throw it in the dryer and hope the wrinkles go away.”

Out of the laundry room I came on a mission to answer that “calling”,
when I noticed a faint bad odor come from my baby who’s started crawling.
Again, into the nursery I went to change a nasty diaper.
I got her undressed and began to work when I saw I had nothing to wipe her!

I make some wipes from paper towels and soap, (it’s really nothing, no toil.)
And so I ran into the kitchen to get the teapot on to boil.
Huggies wipes to the rescue, diaper’s changed, I exit my little girl’s room.
I passed through the kitchen and saw Jonathan had made a mess. “Where’s the broom?”
I resigned myself to cleaning it up and, as I swept, I was shocked!
”I had no idea my floor was this dirty”…the next thing you know, I had mopped!

“Now, what’s that? A shrill whistle’s beginning. Oh, yes! I was boiling water
to make homemade wipes for the next time I need to change my sweet little daughter.
That’s all done, but, while the water is hot, I might as well make muffin mix
because that will help me out tomorrow and make breakfast easy to fix.”

“Oh, Jonathan, are you hungry, sweet boy? Let me stop and get you a snack.”
(There’s nothing like a hungry toddler to become a monkey on your back!)
“And, Annisia! That shrill shriek’s got to end! Let’s get you down for a nap.
Come, let’s find your snuggly and a quiet place and I’ll rock you asleep on my lap.
My word, do you see the wood stove ash covering the top of the piano?
I guess I’ll get the dust rag and clean some so a little less dirt will show.”

“OK, that’s done, now where was I? Was I going to the laundry room?
I must have been, I loaded the washer…should be done by now, I presume.”
Unload and reload the dryer then fold the clothes; it seems laundry is never done.
Nor is cooking and cleaning…but I get to play with the kids and that’s load of fun!

“Now what should I make for lunch? That’s always the million dollar question!
Dad wants a salad, son wants a corn dog, baby wants me! No objection!”
So I began preparing this interesting meal, it can be fun sometimes.
“Annisia is taking a pretty long nap. What time is it?” 12 0’clock chimes.
Like clockwork she awakes and wants to nurse. “I guess there’s time for that now
‘Cause Jonathan doesn’t want to come in anyways, ain’t no way, ain’t no how!

Whew! That’s over! Lunch is put away, and the dishes have all been done.”
It’s time for Jonathan to take a nap, and Annisia to have some fun.
“Now don’t make a fuss, son, just lay down and sleep. You’ll be able to play more later.”
Soon he was out on his new pillowcase that has tractors, and trucks, and a grader.
Annisia and I played for awhile, then she was ready for nap number two.
I laid her down, and left the room, then wondered “What else must I do?
So nice to have a breather from the morning’s song and dance.”
Then, suddenly, I rushed down the hall as I began to wet my pants!

Annisia, Sweet Pea

April 21...Annisia discovered she could crawl under this end table and look out onto the deck. What fun! She really enjoyed seeing her big brother play outside and Grandpa O was there too. She is looking up at Grandma O with this smug little smile. She's really enjoying her mobile world now.

We went out to Chinese on April 29. I put some rice on the table for Annisia to pick up since she likes to do that. Instead, she surprised us all when she leaned forward and ate it off the table instead!

5/1 Don't you wish you could sleep like that? Annisia is sound asleep and didn't move for about 2 hours, then she just rolled over and kept sleeping.

Yesterday, May 4, I had Annisia dressed in this sweet OshKosh pink and white overalls. She loves being able to move, so pants are perfect. She was having a good time hanging out beside me while I was working on the computer.

Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan

We had a playdate with a neighbor friend. Jonathan likes Dawson's excavator. Isn't it cool? It is battery powered, it scoops, the boom goes out...it's great. I think Jonathan would like one too.

This was May 3rd, a sunny, windy day. Jonathan enjoyed being outside with his loader tractor. He took dirt ("mud") from this area we just tilled and planted tall grass seed in, and carried it to the newly tilled garden. Hmmm...will we be growing pasture grass in the garden now?!

May 4...Daddy got home from work and came in the house. When he went out later to have Jonathan help him back the truck into the garage, Jonathan was "pumping up the truck"! He had the hose inside the tailpipe (fortunately, the truck was turned off!). He is fascinated with the bike pump. He will cart it around all afternoon, pumping up the wheelbarrow tires, the tires on the go-go car, his trike, his motorcycle (despite the fact that they're plastic). Whatever keeps him happy, right?

And this morning, May 5, Jonathan relaxed in our bathroom while Daddy showered. He was having a rough morning, didn't want to eat the yummy omelet Daddy made, didn't want his diaper changed, didn't want to do anything he was asked to do, wanted to say "no" to everything. So he finally was chilling with his snuggly, wooby, and the IPod with Enya.

Annisia's 9 Month Pics

It's hard to believe, but Annisia's already 9 months old! She loves crawling unless she's wearing a dress. Then I have to tuck it in her pants or tights! She is standing by tables and anything else her height. And she would rather have things to eat that she can pick up, like peas, pieces of bread and pasta, Cheerios, muffins rather than being fed puree from a spoon, thank you very much! Annisia is quite a sweetie, and likes to have her picture taken (if she can stay still long enough, and not grab for the cool camera, that is!).

This sweet dress is from my dear friend, Debbie. It is so cute...corduroy, "leather" collar, horses, silver heart buttons, and matching tights with built-in socks. I am going to hate having Annisia grow out of it. It may be a keeper...

At the Ranch

Michael came home one day and said, "We have a new baby." Wait just a minute! I am NOT pregnant, I thought. I ran through all of my family and friends and nobody was due to have a baby. Then I remembered...Gramma and Papa were expecting! Foals, that is. So we went out to the ranch to see.

Here is the first...a colt. He's about 10 hours old here, and what a sweetie! He has a gentle soul and is so soft. Jonathan got a kick out of him, not literally, of course!

Papa, Annisia, and Daddy. It was a lovely day, and good to get the kids out to the ranch. Now we're waiting for the second baby...

Papa giving Annisia a whisker rub. Hmmm...she's not so sure about that.

Grandpa & Grandma O visit

Then Grandma and Grandpa came to visit. They brought Annisia her 6 month gift...

...a shiny new tractor and trailer! Wow! Now she doesn't have to use her brother's. Jonathan got a new Volvo semi truck too. He thinks it's pretty cool.

Grandpa and Jonathan went to the sandbox and Grandpa built a "sandapple" with an apple sandbox toy.

Then Jonathan stomped it! Was Grandpa surprised!

Grandma and Jonathan built a castle. Jonathan did most of the work. Then he got out his play jigsaw and cut it down one Lego at a time.

I left Annisia with Grandma and Grandpa one morning and took Jonathan to library hour. I think it is the first time since Annisia's birth that Jonathan and I have done something alone. Annisia is a bit of a Momma's girl, so it was with a little trepidation that I walked out the door. I came home to a soundly sleeping Grandpa's girl. Isn't she sweet?!

Time to catch up!

Whoa! I haven't posted anything for a long time. We got kind of busy I guess. My Mom and Dad came for a visit from April 19 to April 27, so the few days before that I was CLEANING! Ha! Just kidding, Mom! I did spend some time cleaning, but that's just so I wouldn't have to do any while they were here. I also did a little blurb on scrapbooking for our MOPS meeting, so I was preparing that too. What were the kids doing during all that?

Well, Annisia took her first "big bath" with Daddy and Jonathan. She loved it! She splashed and squealed and watched her big brother play. Jonathan and Daddy love the big bath too. It has lots of jets on both sides so you can't help but get clean! When I get a chance, I love it too.

Jonathan loaded up his loader tractor into his trailer and we hooked it up to his bike. He's quite enthralled with all the hooking up he sees his Papa, uncles and Daddy doing. Jonathan has quite an imagination. It is so fun to watch him play.

Who's who?! Here's our sweet kiddles. One is Jonathan, one is Annisia. Who is who? Really not a tough question, but fun nonetheless. Jonathan was wearing this sleeper when he was 14 months old in the pic. Annisia is only 9 months old.
